Approach each answer like you are Spock with no room for being open to interpretation. Take everything literally like you are a robot that cannot think for itself. Just know there is ALWAYS only one correct answer. If not, you’ll catch yourself thinking that 2 or 3 answers appear to be correct. You have to logically critique each word of each answer and compare it with the paragraph you just read.
Not because it was hard to read, but because the given answers to choose from all have VERY subtle differences that you have to catch. Paragraph Knowledge: To be completely honest, this section was one of the hardest for me. You’ll notice that’s a consistent pattern with some of these questions. You’d be right, because “ob” in Latin means to be against something. After you’ve eliminated all you can, you click on the word that mostly resembles obstacle. For example: If you are faced with the word “obstinate”, and are lost, sometimes you can throw a hail mary and say that “obstinate sounds like obstacle”. There’s no good way of studying for this since the dictionary is so vast, so you’re best bet is using process of elimination on the answers and clues within the word that will most likely yield you success. Word Knowledge: Many of these words you should know, but there will be a few you don’t.

Know how to add, multiply, and divide exponents with common bases. Do about 10 practice problems with those as well. That is “What is 6!” The exclamation mark is a factorial. Look it up on Khan Academy and practice about 10 or so problems. I never used the quadratic formula but I did use the “completing the square” method. Many are solving for x, others are using FOIL method There were 3 quadratic factoring questions. The questions get harder as you get more right, so practice these main concepts. Just know that how ever many unknowns you have, that’s the amount of equations you need to set up. There were 2 systems of equations word problems. Just know probability is the number of ways something can happen divided by the total number of outcomes. Know your basic formulas for areas/perimeters of basic shapes like circles, squares, rectangles, and triangles. There were also a good bit of area/perimeter questions. No need to do anything else, double check to make sure your answer makes sense and move on. You can literally see that your first number you compute is a 1, therefore it can only be D. If you are dividing say 129/7, and all the answers are A. The PiCAT isn’t timed, but if you are being timed there’s no need to fully complete your computations. Probably nearly 85% of this section requires you to do those two operations by hand and be comfortable with them.
